Creative Directions
December 3, 2008
I like working from home. I’m looking forward to doing it for money and not for grades, but for the moment – I’m content.
The snow is filtering down, gently, in the very cold night air. The apartment is filled with the sweet smell of apple cake just out of the oven Baking … it’s one way to keep the place warm! I was out for a little bit earlier this evening, helping my neighbor with her new iMac and Photoshop … we tried to figure out why it wasn’t doing what it was supposed to .. while her new puppy was running about under my chair, growling in a tiny little voice, and trying to untie my bootlaces. Picking her up didn’t help too much – she’s teething and noses are fair play, as are the dangling strings on my sweatshirt.
I worked on the website I’m designing for class (I like it – its very simple and easy to use), I began to design the photo/poetry book that I’ll create for my final photo project, and I created the first draft for my literature review presentation next week in research class. I haven’t focused much on my thesis project in the past few weeks, so it was good to come back to that and look at it all from the perspective of time away. I like circling round and round the topic each time I do a new presentation – it helps me to clarify my thoughts and my direction. Perhaps that’s the intention…
I was thinking this morning about how I remain very non-linear. It’s difficult for me to plan things out until I’m already halfway through a project. I have to dive into the waters first and paddle around … testing the waters … finding the way to shore … then, I can take off and ‘just do it’.
Tomorrow night is my writing group – and I’ve just realized that I have to write a short story between now and then … so … I’m off to create in a different direction.
