Baby Its Cold!
December 13, 2008
It’s bitterly cold in Butte, Montana tonight – 14 below zero at a bit after 9pm and its likely to continue to fall further. The winds have died down, but I expect they’ll pick back up sometime in the next few hours. Last night the wind was so strong that it blew the plastic off my windows … on the inside. I”m guessing that poor workmanship had something to do with it … so when I got home from work this evening, I had to replace two window’s worth. It helped … a little.
This morning I was trying to decide if I would make coffee at home and hunker down in the apartment til it was time for work, or if I would head over to the cafe. I realized that last winter, while I was in Dillon, there would have been no question – I’d have already been on the road and heading into Butte – no matter the weather. So, I put on everything I could fit under my coat, warmed up the car, and headed over to the Venus. I’m so glad I did – it was warmer and cozier than my apartment – and friends drifted in and out the door. Dan had come in at 4am to bake – and we had scones and muffins, breadsticks and cinnamon rolls, and a wonderful cake dense with poppy seeds. Yum.
I’m having a beautifully peaceful evening thanks to a friend who sent me a piece of his music. I’ve been listening to it for hours now and it weaves a tapestry of peace and relaxation. I hope that he has more! I’m snug up against the stove and though I can see the flames through the glass plate on the front – a fireplace would be cozier. I’m going to drift away with the music til I can’t keep my eyes open and then let the memory of it bring me into good dreams.
